“Every problem has a space solution”
Astrosat (Astro Science and Technology) was founded in 2012 by CEO Steve Lee as an ‘ideas factory’, to take data from space and use it to solve problems on Earth.
Steve graduated in Astrophysics from Edinburgh University. He supported his studies, and financed his start-up business, by busking and playing his guitar in gigs.
A self-confessed romantic who wants to change the world for the better, Steve wanted from the outset for Astrosat to take a different approach to downstream space services. “Space for humanity” is how he describes it. And his vision was to reflect that in the culture of the business he established to be a sector disruptor. His ambition is for Astrosat to be the ‘pirates’ of the industry, and he likes to refer to the team he has assembled as ‘the crew’.
The company scored an early success with its ThermCERT product which attracted recognition from ESA (the European Space Agency) in the form of a prestigious Copernicus Award. Astrosat went on to develop ThermCERT as a fuel-poverty prediction tool to support the Energy Company Obligation (ECO), and it is now being deployed nationwide by EOn.
